Sutter Pacific Medical Foundationis a not for profit corporation that exists to provide medical services, research and education. The foundation provides the infrastructure for the delivery of physician services, and contracts with a separate corporation comprised of physicians and other care providers to deliver the clinical services. This multi-specialty foundation will provide a platform from which new physicians can be recruited to continue to provide physician services in a nonprofit, community setting. The Foundation's vision is to create a medical group that will deliver high quality, market competitive medical services.

  • Job Summary *

Under general supervision, works alongside providers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals in clinic offices to provide support services directly related to patient care.

Typical duties include overseeing, mentoring and functioning as a technical lead to other MA's in addition to taking patient histories and vital signs, collecting and performing tests on blood and other specimens, providing education and care instructions to patients, and assisting with more complex procedures.

Under the supervision of a licensed clinician, will perform more advanced tasks and procedures based on the assigned specialty.

  • EDUCATION: *

  • HS Diploma or equivalent education required.

  • Graduate of an accredited medical assisting program, which includes a clinical externship required.

  • Proof of training in administering injections and performing skin tests, and/or training in venipuncture and skin puncture for the purpose of withdrawing blood, as required by California Medical Assisting Regulations required.

  • LICENSURES & CERTIFICATIONS: *

  • Basic Life Support Certification - HealthCare Provider - BLS-HCP required upon hire.

  • Current certification as a Medical Assistant from one of the following certifying organizations:

o California Certifying Board for Medical Assistants (CCBMA. Designation: CCMA-C certification in basic and clinical specialty

o American Association of Medical Assistants. Designation: CMA (AAMA)

o American Medical Technologists. Designation: Medical Assistant (RMA)

o Multi-skilled Medical Certification Institute, Inc. Designation: Medical Assistant (NCMA)

  • CCMA-AC certification in Basic and both Clinical and Administration specialties preferred upon hire.

  • EXPERIENCE: *

  • One year recent experience as a certified Medical Assistant required.

  • Demonstrated experience as a lead or preceptor required.

  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to mentor, delegate and hold peers accountable in a manner which encourages team building and a positive work experience as well as a high standards of care quality and efficiency required.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

o Knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology

o Knowledge of medical terminology and abbreviations

o Knowledge and experience of universal precautions which is an approach to infection control to treat all

human blood and certain body fluids as if they were known to be infectious for HIV, HBV, and other

bloodborne pathogens (Bloodborne Pathogens Standard 29 CFR 1910.1030(b) definitions).

o Knowledge and experience in medication administration.

o Competent and validated in basic Medical Assisting skills such as taking vital signs, preparing patients for

exam, and administering injections.

o Intermediate computer and telephone skills.

  • Competent to excellent written and verbal communication skills, including accurate grammar, spelling and punctuation.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with a diverse group of patients.

  • AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation and Thank You) is a framework for employees to communicate with customers as well as with each other. Medical Assistants must be competent and validated in AIDET and other service excellence tools and tactics.

  • Dosage calculation skills as proven by successful completion of medication test and no less frequently than annual competency assessment.

  • Completes incident reports and notifies supervisor/manager.

  • Ability to effectively adapt and adjust to change and willingness to participate in process improvement projects and tasks.

  • Outreach for patient care quality measures and health maintenance.

  • Assures all policy/procedures, workflows and standards are adhered to by Care Center Team.

  • Assures and reports that all quality checks are performed and documented including: medication and supply expiration and storage, safety checks, POCT controls are performed, standards of practice are maintained.

  • Will be the lead trainer for POCT

  • Supports Lean operation of care area: Assures resources are used efficiently, supplies efficiently available, 5S and kanban is maintained.

  • Notifies supervisor/manager of safety or quality issues.

  • Performs PDSA related to work area (Plan, Do, Study, Act) and uses visual management and data collection to assist in continual improvement.
